... it was just a coincidence?!

water dispenser
On Monday evening, October 11th the Glickman-Chase adjourned game resumed. Since this was not a tournament night, only the players and TD Bernardo Iglesias were expected to be there. However, Paul Mac Intyre also stopped by. He said that he didn't know we were playing that night, "...it was just a coincidence."

Surely as President, Paul has many good reasons to be at the club. However, he did admit that he was very interested in the outcome of this game (hoping against hope that Glickman might be able to nick Chase for a half-point and bring Paul that much closer to the leader). Hmmm, the plot thickens.

Suddenly, about a half-hour into the playing session - while Chase was on the clock - Paul changed the bottle on the water dispenser just a few feet away from the players. For the next several minutes all we could hear was the deafening sound of 'glub! glub! glub!' as the water dispenser refilled. Could Paul possibly have been trying to influence the outcome of the game by disturbing Chris' concentration? He said, "... it was just a coincidence."

I had to get that last bottle out of the dispenser, because the Poland Spring man was coming to replace it the next day. Then, of course, I had to put in a new bottle right away, otherwise dust can get in. The loud and extended "glub, glub, glub" was totally unpremeditated. I can't deny taking a bit of mischevious pleasure in this happenstance, however . . . And as Chase won anyway, no harm was done.

Apparently with his devious plan foiled, Paul thinks that this cover story will do. However, I am sure my loyal readers will see through his thinly-veiled excuses. :)
