Because the stakes are so low

Over the years the Championship has had its share of controversy -- forfeited games, disagreements over scheduling games/adjournments, objections to TD rulings. On occasion players have withdrawn from the tournament over these issues.

A couple of years ago
FIDE rating became quite an issue. When the tournament started the club was unable to assure that it would be FIDE rated. While most players didn't care, some said that they needed to know that it was FIDE rated from the start or not have it FIDE rated at all.

Chessplayers can certainly be a temperamental lot. Here's hoping everything runs smoothly this year; but if it doesn't, you can be sure to read about it
